A metabolic analysis of longevity and ageing in the model organism C. elegans

How long will you live? The answer may be found in your blood. Florian Geier is trying to identify which chemical compounds are associated with a long lifespan. By ingesting them, we might be able to greatly increase our life expectancy.
My research focuses on understanding the metabolomic principles of ageing and longevity in the model organism Caenorhabditis elegans. The first step will be to generate metabolic profile baseline data. One of my major aims will be to develop novel mass spectrometry based methods. In a subsequent stage hypotheses will be generated with the help of mathematical metabolic models. Finally all hypotheses will be validated using life-science techniques.
