Optical Properties of healthy, ageing and pathological tissue of the anterior segment of the eye
In our ageing population, eye surgery is on the rise. Marciano aims to optimize a new ultra-short-pulse laser for age-related pathologies, like cataracts and glaucoma. He works simultaneously on elucidating the factors affecting transparency of the eye, predicting the propagation of the laser beam in the tissue, and developing a device for evaluating donated corneas. Mastering these elements holds promise for greater success and fewer side effects for increasingly common eye procedures.
My research focuses on the new challenges that ophthalmic surgery has to address in a context of widespread age-related pathologies. The research focuses on development of new surgical tools using ultra short pulse laser devices optimised for grafting and glaucoma surgery. The aim of the research is to fine tune the laser parameters to adapt it to the tissular properties of the eye.
